COOLER NIGHTS

Cooling bedding: read this before buying

The word “cooling” does a lot of work on a product page. Here’s what to look at instead.

Start with the fiber label

Cotton, linen, polyester and rayon derived from bamboo are different materials. Bamboo-derived rayon is a processed fiber; it is not automatically the same as bamboo linen. Look for a clear material percentage rather than a vague natural-fabric promise.

Compare the whole bed

A light sheet cannot compensate for a heavy comforter and heat-retaining mattress protector. Change one layer at a time. Start by removing an unnecessary blanket before buying a new set.

Measure before ordering

Measure mattress depth including a topper. Compare fitted-sheet pocket depth and the actual pillowcase dimensions. A queen label does not tell you everything about a particular set.

Make washing part of the decision

Check drying temperature, shrinkage guidance and whether a full set fits your washer. If you need easy machine care, skip products whose instructions do not match your routine.

Cooling is a comfort feature

Fabric marketing does not establish treatment for night sweats or menopause symptoms. Persistent or new symptoms deserve a discussion with a qualified clinician. Buy bedding for comfort, with realistic expectations.
